FROM SELF DOUBT TO INDUSTRY ADVOCATE

How Afternoon media Brought Accessibility to the Wedding World

Meet Afton Aulick, the photographer and filmmaker behind Afternoon Media.

With a film school background and a portfolio of non-traditional weddings, elopements, and portraits, Afton’s vision has always been about more than pretty pictures. She wants to tell stories that feel like time capsules, especially for neurodivergent and queer couples who deserve to see themselves reflected with care.
When she reached out to me, these thoughts were front and center:

She had the talent, but what she lacked was confidence, clarity, and a platform that matched her values.

The Vision

The Process

Afton didn’t just want to book aligned alternative weddings, she wanted to change the industry conversation. Hosting an educational workshop on accessibility in weddings was her dream project, but the logistics felt overwhelming.

Our goals were to create a brand + website she felt proud to share, bring her accessibility workshop to life, build structure around her offers (including video + Super 8), and increase visibility in the Pittsburgh wedding community.

We started by grounding Afternoon Media’s identity with clear messaging, streamlined packages, and a visual rebrand that reflected her artistry. It didn’t hurt that Afton herself was a branding and design savant. She also designed the one you’re scrolling right now! More on that later. From there, we built the workshop step by step: Content, marketing, sign-ups, and vendor outreach.
Throughout our time together, I became her strategist and accountability partner. Afton put it best:

GROSS!! I would never do that!

“I felt like an amateur. I was second-guessing my edits, my style, my packages…nothing felt consistent.”

"I don’t think I could have pulled off the workshop alone. Having Heather’s support made it possible.”

“You actually delivered on your promises, stayed organized, and pushed me without pressuring me. I never felt like I had to do things your way or else.”

THE WORKSHOP

In April 2025, Afton hosted her first workshop! She called it Weddings Unmasked, and the results spoke volumes:

“Hearing vendors say they’ll change their practices because of me was unbelievable.”

  • 20+ local vendors attended (planners, photographers, florists, venue owners, makeup stylists)

  • 90% reported plans to implement accessibility practices immediately

  • Follow-up bookings + collaborations came directly from workshop relationships

  • New recognition positioned Afton as an educator and advocate, not just another photographer

“I am more capable than I imagined.”

BEYOND THE WORKSHOP

After the workshop, Afternoon Media received more consistent & aligned leads after her rebrand and site launch, booked her first video add-on where a client said yes before she even had a portfolio sample, built a community ecosystem where she strengthened vendor relationships/collaborations, and gained creative confidence (and a retainer collaboration with ME! I’m so grateful to have Afton as my go-to designer for my clients in need of a fresh brand and website. She’s a rockstar.)

For Afton, vision building was about stepping into her role as an artist and an advocate. Afternoon Media now stands for inclusive storytelling, accessible practices, and the courage to lead hard conversations in the wedding industry. One she has just started. Keep your on what Afternoon Media is up to this November!
